Virginia and Child Support
JUST TWO YEARS ago the state of Virginia had an abominable record in its efforts to collect child support payments from divorced parents. The Commonwealth ranked behind every state except Oklahoma, and behind Guam and Puerto Rico. Since that humiliating disclosure, however, some significant gains have apparently been made. Now the National Child Support Advocacy Coalition says Virginia may rank among the top one-third of states. Virginia officials have finally gotten more aggressive, doubling the number of investigators available to take on cases, and that comes as welcome news.
